Thomas Kannampallil is the director of the primary care informatics research program in the Department of Family Medicine in the College of Medicine at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Along with Karl Kochendorfer, Chief Health Information Officer at UI Health, I am part of the new Collaborative for Health Informatics (CHI) @ UIC.

Prior to UIC, I was a researcher and assistant director of the Center for Cognitive Studies in Medicine and Public Health at the New York Academy of Medicine. I was also a researcher at the National Center for Cognitive Informatics and Decision Making at University of Texas, and Beckman Institute at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. I went to grad school at Penn State.

Currently, my research interests are at the intersection of informatics, human-computer interaction and cognitive modeling. Specifically, I am interested in information seeking behaviors of clinicians, usability issues and communication challenges during transitions of care. More recently, I have been studying the impact of meaningful use implementations on clinical work efficiency and workflows. You can find further details of some of these projects on the projects page.

If you are interested in working with me on any of these areas or want to know more about my research interests, please take a look at my publications and contact me.
